How do Avoxes eat?

I really have no idea. Maybe they have like a feeding tube or something???

The tongue isn't actually a necessary part of the digestive system, the only digestion that takes place in your mouth is mastication (chewing) and chemical digestion by saliva that's produced in the salivary glands, and I don't think they're located on the tongue. I believe the main purpose of the tongue is to just move food around so you can chew it up better, but it wouldn't be totally necessary. It's also where all the taste receptors are, so Avoxes probably can't taste the food they eat, but that's also not crucial to surviving, so they get by. They're just regarded as traitors and their comfort isn't a top priority in society, after all.

How do you become an Avox?Edit

The setting of this book series has set the whole tone for the Avoxs and how they become what they are. It usually starts when they are captured for something they have done. The people who have become avoxes are tyically rebels, wanderers, etc. From there they are taken to the Capitol where they are questioned for what they have done. If they plead guilty and the charges are harsh they are to spend their life as an avox. This is where their tongues are painfully removed or burned out of their mouths. I get this theory mainly because Katniss talks about it somewhat in the second book,Catching Fire. This is when she is chosen again to go back into the arena and she is welcomed by her avox.

I've always said a-vox (as if the "a" is a short vowel). Do they mention it in the movie? I haven't seen it yet so I don't know.
