The way Haymitch was trying to get Katniss to play the "Star-crossed lovers" game made me think that he was trying to play matchmaker. She kissed him and she got an immediate care package. She said there is no one to compare Peeta to and they get a feast. All of these happened in a heartbeat. Well Haymitch is suppose to line up donors and determine when the packages get sent. He obivously already had the packages in tow, he just wanted to play matchmaker in my opinion.

See, there was no need to play the game of lovers that late into the Hunger Games. Plus Haymitch already knew that Peeta's love was real. Sure the capitol was mad at the end, but that was cause of Katniss' defiance, not their love.

So in my opinion Haymitch knew the lovers game was part of gaining sponsers and favor, but the way he made Katniss play the game seemed to me like he was playing matchmaker. He liked Peeta and wanted to see him happy with Katniss.

All along he said, "He is too good for you" and I think he meant it, but he knew Peeta loved her and Haymitch wanted her to love Peeta too.

I just saw the movie and it was a little sad that Haymitch was the funniest.When he sent her the pot of hot broth, there was a note that said You call that a kiss? I laughed so hard (but in my mhind, because everyone in the theatre would have been pretty mad!) The only other parts that were funny were when the Careers died (I think I'm from the capitol!)

Hey all

I think this bit needs changing -

"Haymitch and Effie do not start off right. They first encounter each other when Haymitch shows up drunk"

Haymitch has been mentoring district 12 tributes for years; and Effie has also been in her role a while - Katniss says several things that suggest this such as when she states that Effie says 'ladies first' when pulling a name, as she 'always does'.
